My Islam is …

Part one:

Before you start to read my article i would ask you to look at this video. This is a campagne video made by a political party in the Netherlands. The party is called PVV and is led by Geert Wilders.

Now that you have seen this video i would like to clear the air. Muslims have been the topic of discussion since 2001. A shift is constructed. People are shifting from tolerance and acceptance to hate and rejection. Our society has never been so divided. Like all times politics and media have a strong hand in this shift. I think that its my obligation-not because i am muslim, but because i know better – to contradict these totally misplaced messages. That is why i took the liberty to write an article about the topics PVV addresses.

Islam has been constructed to discriminate according to the PVV. I came across a verse of the Quran that says: O people, We have created you male and female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Verily, the most noble of you to Allah is the most righteous of you. Verily, Allah is knowing and aware. – Surat al-Hujurat 49:13. The Islam accepts all kind of human beings because they are all descended from Adam who is created out of dust.  The Islam sees no difference in human beings except that of good and bad ones.

Violence has become the signature sign for the Islam according to a lot of people but what does the Islam really say about violence? To demonstrate this i would like to tell you the story of the Prophet. In Mecca the Prophet and its companions faced 13 years of persecution. They were boycotted for food three years. In those three years his first wife Khadija died. Even in that state the Prophet did not fight. Instead he sent some companions to ask refugee for them in Abyssinia. His companions asked him to fight back but he refused and decided to leave Mecca together with the muslims. They were victim of terror but still did not fight back, instead they left their homes and asked asylum  in a Jewish city Medina.

But wait a moment so his wife died because of terror executed upon him? and instead of fighting back he left his own house and went to a Jewish city? Most of you might feel really confused right now, because according to a lot of people Anti –Semitisme is a fact within the Islam. So how did that work? Did they conquer Medina with violence? I am sorry to disappoint you but instead of violence the Prophet formed a the Constitution of Medina with the Jews, establishing a unified secular state. So Jews and Muslims lived together as equals? This must feel like the biggest joke of this century for some of you.

So the Prophet never used violence? No, he did but only in the form of self-defence. After the Prophet left Mecca he was still being pursued by extremists who had the task to kill muslims. That is when he was granted permission in the Quran 22:40-41 to use violence.  This permission was only given to ‘’them against whom war is waged’’.Voilence is pre-conditioned only to be used in self-defence. If that makes the Islam a violent religion then this also means that our law systems are corrupted with violence. In most non- Islamic countries self-defence is seen as a ground not to get prosecuted.

So when Medina was attracted the Prophet and his followers defended their own lives and that of others. They defended all innocence even if they were Jew or Christians. The Islam gave really clear instructions upon when to use violence. Most wars knew slavery and in humanitarian slaughter and raping but the Islam had a different stand. According tot he Quran 2:193-194 a muslim was only allowed to fight an active combat. This means if an enemy asks for amnesty during combat one should be granted to him without torture, mutilation or any damage. The Islam does not underline injustice and slavery. So how come people link Daesh, Al- Qaeeda or other extremely violent terrorist to the Islam?

Because of strict and inhuman terrorist groups the Islam is seen like a totalitarian religion. Once again history objects to this accusation. While most of you think that Islam stands for no freedom at all, history, the holy Quran and the way of living of the Prophet show us differently. After 20 years the Prophet went back to Mecca, to bring the Islam. After suffering so much in the war against him and even after losing his own children he forgave with one condition that the Meccans would accept universal freedom of conscience. So this men who is considered to be totalitarian , did not force the Islam on the Meccans but asked them to give them self and others the liberty of thoughts. Sounds like a real dictator to me and an even bigger threat to our society. Imagine living with people who believe in all that i have described above.
